Blood Orange Olive Oil Baked Donuts

Ingredients

  • For the donuts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 ¼ tsp baking powder

  • ⅛ teaspoon baking soda

  • ⅛ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • ¼ cup AOOC Blood Orange Olive Oil (you could also use Mani Orange or just an EVOO)

  • ½ cup milk (or milk alternative)

  • ¼ cup orange juice

  • 1 ½ teaspoon AOOC Cara-Cara Orange & Vanilla Balsamic

  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 orange & zest

  • For the frosting
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 Tbsp orange juice

  • Other
  • 6-hole doughnut pan

  • cooling rack

Directions

  • For donuts
  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • Drizzle a 6-hole doughnut pan with Blood Orange Olive Oil
  • Put flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar into a bowl.
  • In another small bowl combine the Blood Orange Olive Oil, milk, orange juice, Cara-Cara Orange & Vanilla Balsamic, vanilla extract and orange zest.
  • Pour wet ingredients into the dry and stir until combined and you can no longer see any dry flour. Do not over mix.
  • Spoon carefully into the doughnut pan. Fill to the top and gently clear the middle area of batter.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted comes out clean.
  • Leave in the pan for 5 minutes then turn out onto a cooling rack nd allow to cool completely.
  • Orange Decoration
  • Line a small baking tray with parchment paper. Lay the orange pieces on the tray and sprinkle with the sugar. Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until the sugar has melted completely and is bubbling. Remove and allow to cool completely. They will still be slightly moist, but chewy.
  • For frosting
  • Gradually add the orange juice to the powdered sugar stirring well in between each addition. Stop when it reaches a very thick white frosting.
  • Top each donut with a drizzle of frosting and a small wedge of the baked orange.
